Care: Crucian Carp are native to the UK and parts of Europe, a shy fish very genetically similar to Common and Mirror carp. They can in fact interbreed with carp making a hybrid often referred to in fishing as an “F1”.
While they don’t grow to the same large sizes as the mirror carp they have similar feeding habits, happily feeding on surface foods as well as foraging around at the bottom for insect and plant life buried.
During summer months they tend to remain in small shoals often feeding at night in the margins, but in winter they will be found in deeper water often in very large numbers, shoals two or three hundred strong.
