Care: Often seen in very large shoals in rivers and streams these are a shoal fish and should not be kept in groups of less than ten fish.
They eat plant mater, insects and invertebrates found in the water, they will also enjoy pond foods like pond sticks.
Minnows can breed several times a year and when in season males develop bright white flecks on there fins and a red belly.
As their name suggests they are a small fish with a maximum growth of 10cm, so they are ideal for an aquarium provided there is good filtration.
