Latin Name: Planorbis planorbis
Maximum Size: 5cm

Temperature: Cold water-temperate between 2-25 deg C (34-82 deg F)
Care: The Ramshorn snail is on of the most interesting looking snails in the UK. Like other snails they require very little care as their diet will consist of plant matter naturally occurring in your pond.
They can breed in great numbers often their eggs can be seen on the stems and leaves of water plants. Many fish like carp will eat the eggs and small snails as part of there diet.
It is often believed that having snails in the pond will keep it clean, unfortunately this is not true.
While snails do eat a lot of plant matter that is considered waste they only recycle it and can do nothing to improve water clarity. Instead snails are just a good part of a healthy ecosystem.
